Chancellor

Mr. Ahmad Javed is a distinguished retired officer of the Indian Police Service and former Diplomat who has served the nation with dedication and distinction over a long and varied career. He is presently serving as the Hon’ble Chancellor of Tripura University, a Central University located at Agartala, Tripura.

An officer of the 1980 batch of the Indian Police Service, Mr. Ahmad Javed held several important responsibilities during his career in the police and public administration. His professional journey included assignments as Superintendent of Police in Buldhana and Nanded, service with the Delhi Police, and other senior positions in the Maharashtra Police including DGP (HG). He served in senior leadership roles including Additional Commissioner of Police Mumbai and Joint Commissioner of Police, Mumbai and Commissioner of Police, Navi Mumbai.

In 2015, Mr. Ahmad Javed was appointed Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, where he led one of India's major metropolitan police forces. His tenure reflected his extensive experience in public administration, policing and institutional leadership.

In 2016, he was appointed Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a position he held until March 2019. His experience as a senior police officer and diplomat has given him a broad understanding of public institutions, governance, leadership and India's engagement with the wider world.

Mr. Ahmad Javed has been honoured inter alia, with the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and other recognitions for his contribution to public service. He is an alumnus of St. Stephen's College, Delhi University, where he completed his Bachelor of Arts degree.

As the Hon’ble Chancellor of Tripura University, Mr. Ahmad Javed is associated with the University's statutory and academic framework and serves as the Chancellor of the University. His association with Tripura University brings together a rich experience of public service, administration, institutional leadership and international diplomacy. His perspective and guidance contribute to the University's continuing endeavour to promote academic excellence, meaningful research, innovation, ethical leadership and a strong sense of social responsibility.
